A female Afghanistan veteran who is in a mysterious relationship with her deceased best friend in the Army returns to the family’s ancestral lake house with her Vietnam vet grandfather. Morgan Freeman and Ed Harris previously starred together in Gone Baby. Gone (2007).. is one of the best films I’ve seen in a while. It’s a story about how to deal with the loss of loved ones – past or future – which is a theme in many films, if you think about it. The way MDFZ does this is amazing and what actually happened is in the middle almost the entire time. This is more than just a film about American veterans, which can be an initial stumbling block for non-USA viewers. It made me reflect on a lot of things going on in my personal life and it really gave me some peace of mind. I sincerely hope this move gets a proper European release as well. The reception it received at a Dutch film festival seems promising.
